How do we make sure we are identifying the talent of the future?
Wednesday saw some of our Giants from Sleeping Giant Media and Giant Campus head to the actual campus of the University of Kent to take part in the Innovation Creativity Enterprise; Human Resources Conference 2016.
Luke and Nell spoke at the event last year and delegates were keen to hear how Sleeping Giant Media has got on with its internal changes on a HR front. Anyone who knows about us here will know that we don’t do things the same as everyone else; from our ball pit in our offices to the way we approach recruitment. We like to try new things.
This time round everybody wanted to know how we had got on with implementing our policy of Unlimited Annual Leave.
The event was organised by Carole Barron and Jackie Fotheringham from the Innovation Creativity Enterprise and sponsored by the kind folk at AXA PPP Healthcare. It was a great chance to meet and speak to people outside of the context of the digital bubble in which we find ourselves.
We had some great conversations with HR leaders and got to showcase some of the unique things we do here at Giant Towers. Concluding with Carole declaring ‘Everybody needs a Nell’ We weren’t just there to show-off though, we also found ourselves learning huge amounts from the great speakers on show.
There was such a diverse range of speakers to captivate even the most experienced HR mind, Trish Stretton (People face2Face) spoke about how organisations deal with talent and what happens when we don’t identify those with potential talent. It was a fascinating insight into the subject. Following on from Trish, Barry Lewis from JW training gave us some activities to help with our resilience and self-awareness.
The highlight of the event from my perspective were the talks given by Dr Sammantha Evan, Dr Tim Hopthrow and Dawn Nicholson from the University of Kent itself. Here we looked at the psychological impact that talent has on individuals as well as organisations, and the unconscious bias that forms part of the recruitment process. The day finished with Jennifer Thomas from Caliper Human Strategies and Barbara Winter of lead sponsor AXA PPP Healthcare.
Giant Campus was born to generate the next future of marketers, education is in our DNA, so we were very excited to be at an event dedicated to nurturing future talent. We didn’t get a chance to speak to all of you during the event so please do get in touch with us via twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn or to see more of our videos subscribe to our YouTube channel to keep on top of the digital curve.
